To Value Suffering Or Kindness

As students of the Course in Miracles (ACIM), we rarely make a list of what we should value as well as then, we most definitely won't admit to locating value in fear, guilt, anxiety, attack, judgment, punishment, discomfort and suffering. Such madness is prized most of all because we feel we deserve punishment. Think about the song, "Amazing Elegance" with a line, "That saved a wretch much like me." According the ego, we're this type of poor, unhappy, wretched and contemptible person (a wretch), i.e., guilty and therefore worthy of punishment. A barrage of attacks maintains this illusion and therefore why the program states attack should be relinquished entirely (T-7.Mire.1) because it is from the ego to see value in suffering. We keep what we should value.

The term symbol definition for "value" is, "The regard that something takes place to deserve the significance a course in miracles, worth or effectiveness of something." Honestly, all of us value the ego and it is characteristics. In the end, it's what "saves" us in the vengeful God. Let alone the ego can also be what stated (so we believed) that God is vengeful. It's each side of the identical gold coin.

Harm may be the results of judgment. It's the dishonest act that follows a dishonest thought. It's a verdict of guilt upon a brother, and for that reason on yourself (M-4.IV.1).

There's sufficient material in the program and also the writings of Kenneth Wapnick to substantiate judgment because the apparent cause leading straight to the result of discomfort, suffering and anxiety, i.e., harm. There's two Training (281 and 330) on not harming ourselves today along with a video by Wapnick with similar title. Wapnick's video explains very eloquently the purpose the program is making during these training in addition to tying together the idea from the Course. I'll summarize the important thing points.

Harm may be the option for the incorrect teacher - the teacher of judgment, the teacher of guilt - the ego. Harm refers back to the option to keep up with the separation within the mind by selecting to value guilt because we feel we sinned against God and Paradise. We still see (value) variations and separation and therefore we have to value special love and special hate relationships to satisfy our special needs.

To explain the purpose, special love meets our needs once we see individual’s needs and special hate is perfect for individuals who deny our perceived needs. Both require judgment of others (meeting or otherwise meeting need) however the judgment is first on ourselves about individuals needs, for instance. Within the illusion, there's lack and therefore needs. We value what we should originate from others (laws and regulations of chaos which govern all illusions T-23.II.20). We are prepared to harm (judge, attack) others to obtain individuals needs met since you have only that which you take.

We still outside of others (keep up with the separation within the mind) by knowing them and which makes them in to these special love or hate partners (either the ego's motto). All this judgmental separation is definitely an outward projection from the inward condition from the mind, i.e., a mind incompatible.

Because we have seen others as various and requiring for everyone our neediness, they're blamed because the reason for our hurt and discomfort which is usually the option for guilt that people refuse to check out. All interests will be separate, apart and various. That's suffering, i.e., careful analysis judge (see) another's interest aside from our very own may be the supply of our discomfort, anxiety, etc. You have to lose for an additional to achieve. That's certainly a smack upside the mind!
