Title

At Belle Plain with Wagons of the Sanitary Commission

Description

The U.S. Army established a dock at Belle Plain as a safe spot to transport goods and supplies and men to and from Fredericksburg. Many bands of Confederates roamed around the 12 mile area between Belle Plain on the Rappahannock river and Fredericksburg, making it especially difficult to bring aid to the wounded.

Today, only a few dilapidated wooden structures still stand to denote the presence of the dock.
